Will Republican Senators Support McConnell’s 7th Bid for GOP Leader?

Washington — Today, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pledged to make a 7th bid for GOP leader next year, raising a single, pressing question for Republican Senators...

"Despite a disastrous tenure as Majority Leader in which the Senate has failed to act on urgent issues — from prescription drug prices to coronavirus rescue to civil rights — today Mitch McConnell confirmed he plans to continue to lead Senate Republicans in the next congress. McConnell has failed to protect his vulnerable incumbents from tough votes while freely doling out taxpayer cash for special interests," said Joshua Karp of Fix Our Senate.

“The question for Republican Senators is obvious: will they support Mitch McConnell for GOP Leader next year?”

Politico: McConnell vows to stay on as GOP leader even if Republicans lose Senate

  • Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday he planned to stay on as Republican leader regardless of whether he's relegated to the minority or keeps control of the Senate.
  • "I do," McConnell said when asked if he'll continue to seek the party leader role after the November elections. McConnell, 78, has had the job of GOP leader since 2007 and is the longest serving Republican leader of all time.
  • Polls show increasing peril for the GOP’s 53-seat Senate majority, with a half-dozen seats truly competitive and the potential for more races to be in the mix.
