YESTERDAY: “Fix Our Senate Launches New Seven Figure Ad Campaign Calling on Democrats to Secure Our Democracy, Not Defend the Filibuster”
WASHINGTON, DC — This evening, Senate Republicans filibustered a vote to begin debate on the For the People Act (S.1). The following is a statement from Eli Zupnick, spokesperson for Fix Our Senate:
“Today, a minority of senators weaponized the filibuster to prevent the Senate from even starting debate on legislation protecting Americans’ right to vote. Just because this outcome was expected doesn’t make it any less outrageous.
Now it couldn’t be any clearer: a majority of the Senate voted to advance strong voting rights legislation and the only thing standing in the way is the outdated and abused filibuster.
This fight isn’t over – in fact, it’s just getting started and these next few weeks are going to be absolutely critical. Fix Our Senate and millions of advocates and activists across the country are going to make our voices heard and make it clear that we agree with Leader Schumer that ‘failure is not an option.’ And we’re not going to stop until the filibuster is eliminated as Sen. McConnell’s weapon of partisan obstruction and Senate Democrats deliver on their promise to protect our sacred voting rights in America.”
Earlier this evening, Fix Our Senate hosted a press call on the S.1 filibuster with Eli Zupnick, Meagan Hatcher-Mays, Tré Easton, Stephany Spaulding, and Brett Edkins. You can watch the recording here.
