Sen. Klobuchar: “I would get rid of the filibuster...I have favored filibuster reform for a long time and now especially for this critical election bill”
“...people are making it harder to vote and you just can’t let that happen in a democracy because of some old rules in the Senate”
Washington, DC — Today, Fix Our Senate released the following statement in response to the news that Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), who chairs the Senate Rules Committee, is committed to advancing the critical “For the People Act” even in the face of a Republican filibuster.
"Senator Klobuchar knows that her constituents back in Minnesota care more about ending voter suppression than protecting an arcane and abused Senate rule, and that Sen. McConnell can't be allowed to make liars out of Senate Democrats who promised they would protect voting rights if voters put them in charge,” said Eli Zupnick, spokesman for Fix Our Senate. “This is big news for people across the country who are dismayed by the surge of voter suppression and who are looking to Senate Democrats to take speedy action to restore our broken democracy, even if that means eliminating an outdated and abused Senate rule.”
