“Senator McConnell is single-mindedly focused on protecting the broken status quo that preserves his power and benefits his special interest allies.” - Eli Zupnick
WASHINGTON, DC — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) today told radio host Hugh Hewitt that, should Republicans retake control of the U.S. Senate, it will be “highly unlikely” he would allow President Biden to fill a Supreme Court vacancy in 2024. Senator McConnell even refused to commit to filling a potential Supreme Court vacancy in 2023, stating, “we'd have to wait and see what happens.”
These comments are the latest reminder of Sen. McConnell’s commitment to partisan obstruction designed to keep our democracy rigged, which comes following his filibuster of the bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th insurrection, his pledge to filibuster the For the People Act, and his admission that “100% of my focus is on stopping this new administration.”
Eli Zupnick, spokesperson for Fix Our Senate, issued the following statement:
"Sen. McConnell is single-mindedly focused on protecting the broken status quo that preserves his power and benefits his special interest allies. This is just one more reminder that the filibuster must be eliminated as a partisan weapon Sen. McConnell can wield to continue his gridlock and obstruction.”
