People across the country are getting another clear look at McConnell’s broken Senate
McConnell is blocking economic relief Trump is asking for, does anyone think he’s going to allow anything to move if a Democrat is in the White House?
Latest Senate dysfunction is another clear reminder that McConnell can’t be allowed to continue his gridlock and dysfunction from minority
Washington — Today, Fix Our Senate responded to the news that once again Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is holding up bipartisan COVID-19 response legislation for political reasons. He is worried that it could impact his ability to jam an extreme Supreme Court nominee through before voters have a chance to weigh in.
"This is par for the course in Sen. McConnell’s broken Senate and people across the country are sick and tired of it,” said Fix Our Senate spokesman Eli Zupnick. “If Sen. McConnell can’t or won’t allow a COVID-19 response bill to pass while his own party is in control of the White House, it should be clear as day that he’s not going to allow anything to move under a Democratic Administration. There’s no more doubt that the broken Senate needs to be fixed and the filibuster needs to be eliminated as a weapon that Sen. McConnell can use to continue his gridlock and dysfunction from the minority.”
This latest example of Senate gridlock comes as momentum continues to grow for reform. This week advocates in California called on Gov. Newsom to only fill vacant Senate seats with people who are committed to eliminating the filibuster as a weapon of partisan obstruction. Fix Our Senate recently held a livestream event with Senators, advocates, and activists that was viewed by over 200K people to make the clear call to fix the broken Senate and eliminate the filibuster in 2021. Just last week, President Obama appeared on an episode of Pod Save America, denouncing the filibuster as an impediment to getting things done.
