McConnell Brings Back Senate Against Advice of Medical Experts To Jam Through Anti-Healthcare Judges

Washington, D.C. — Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is calling the Senate back into session next week. But it’s not to provide aid to state and local governments, support frontline workers, or ask the administration why the U.S. still does not have an adequate testing regime.

McConnell is calling the Senate back, against the advice of medical experts, because apparently nothing is more important than his relentless pursuit of forcing through unqualified, anti-health care judges — even in the middle of the worst pandemic in generations.

McConnell’s focus: confirming Justin Walker, the 37-year-old McConnell protege nominated to the D.C. Circuit Court despite only sitting seven months on a district court in Kentucky — after being deemed “unqualified” by the American Bar Association.

Instead of fighting to keep workers on payroll during the pandemic, McConnell is jamming through a judge who is openly and outwardly hostile to the Affordable Care Act. Instead of protecting frontline health care workers, McConnell is rushing the confirmation for someone who went on Fox News numerous times to defend Justice Brett Kavanaugh during his confirmation hearing.

In the latest example of the corruption McConnell has fostered in the senate, he is focusing his attention on confirming judges who will strip health care away from working Americans during a crisis, while returning profits to health insurance and drug companies who fund his campaigns.

"It’s no surprise that McConnell’s number one priority hasn’t changed a bit: flooding the federal government with sycophants and enablers of his culture of corruption. Judge Walker is by all accounts unqualified for his current job, let alone the promotion he’s up for, and the sole reason he was nominated is because he’s had McConnell’s back for years,” said Joshua Karp of Fix Our Senate. “This type of cronyism and nepotism is exactly the type of thing the Founders wanted to avoid and it’s exactly the type of destruction McConnell has wrought on the Senate as an institution.”
