The Senator from Nevada told The Washington Post she would support eliminating the filibuster "in the case of protecting democracy”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, in the The Washington Post, Senator Jacky Rosen from Nevada expressed support for eliminating the filibuster to protect democracy and voting rights. Though Senator Rosen, one of the 49 Democratic Senators who co-sponsored the For the People Act, is a vocal proponent of reaching across the aisle, she also made clear in her interview that she will support doing what it takes to protect our democracy and the fundamental right to vote.

Fix Our Senate Spokesman Eli Zupnick responded with the following statement:

"Senator Rosen, along with her colleagues in the Democratic caucus and the vast majority of the American people, knows what’s at stake if Republicans are allowed to block democracy reforms from the minority. With our democracy on the brink and new anti-voting bills being introduced in states across the country every day, Senator Rosen is making it clear that the ‘Jim Crow relic’ filibuster can’t be prioritized over the integrity of American elections and democracy. Majority Leader Schumer has said that ‘failure is not an option’ when it comes to passing critical voting rights legislation, and we are glad that Sen. Rosen agrees.”

"I will never stop trying to find common ground across the aisle in order to deliver for hard working Nevadans and Americans, but I’m also not going to let obstructionists stand in the way of protecting our fundamental rights as Americans," Rosen said in a statement. "Right now, our democracy is under attack and we must do everything we can to protect voting rights. If eliminating the filibuster is what it takes to get it done, then we must protect our democracy at all costs.”
