Los Angeles Times: “Feinstein has long opposed the idea [of eliminating the filibuster], but in recent weeks she has appeared to soften her stance, particularly after Biden last month said he would be open to it.”

Sen. Feinstein’s CA State Director Jim Lazarus: “[Sen. Feinstein] has said that over the last few weeks and made it clear that she will support a path to get this bill to the floor for a vote without the need of 60 votes, 100 percent.

Washington, DC — On Monday, Sen. Dianne Feinstein joined the growing list of Democratic members of Congress calling for the elimination of the filibuster in order to pass the For the People Act. In a meeting with California Indivisible members, Sen. Feinstein’s California State Director Jim Lazarus made clear that Sen. Feinstein is in favor of bypassing the filibuster to protect voting rights. As the Los Angeles Times stated, “Dianne Feinstein signals she’s open to abandoning Senate filibuster for voting rights.”

Fix Our Senate Spokesman Eli Zupnick was quoted as saying:

"It’s great to see Sen. Feinstein commit to passing the For the People Act through the Senate even if it means eliminating Sen. McConnell’s ability to block it with the ‘Jim Crow’ filibuster. The only way that Sen. Feinstein and other Democrats will be able to pass popular bills supporting voting rights, gun safety legislation, immigration reform and so many other key priorities is if the filibuster is eliminated.”

Highlights from Jim Lazarus’ Q&A with California Indivisible members:

"Hopefully that is the hook that allows this bill to go forward absent any concern of the filibuster. But this is so critically important.”

"Unfortunately, just as Republicans are going into overdrive with voter suppression bills, we know that Republicans in the Senate will filibuster and do everything they can to kill the For the People Act. We look to Senator Feinstein, not just to support the bill but to fight for it.”

"She has said that over the last few weeks and made it clear that she will support a path to get this bill to the floor for a vote without the need of 60 votes, 100 percent, whatever the best approach that Chuck Schumer and the leadership come up with to get this bill to a vote on the floor, Senator Feinstein supports 100%.”

"And then the next step is to see how do we reform the process so that 40 senators don’t prevent, or one senator, but that you need 60 to move bills forward that can be stopped by one. So I think you’re gonna see a reform package come out of the leadership in the Senate.”
