Washington Post: “Manchin left the meeting Wednesday and said he believed a new bill could be released in the coming days.”

Senator Warnock: “What you will see over the next few days is a Democratic caucus that knows how to walk and chew gum at the same time...We’ll be working on infrastructure, and we’ll be working on the infrastructure of our democracy.”

Earlier this month: “90 Advocacy Groups to Majority Leader Schumer: Hold Another Vote on Voting Rights, Don’t Let Filibuster Block Will of Majority”

Leader Schumer in April: “Failure is not an option...If we wait until much past August then these horrible changes that these Republican legislatures are putting into effect may not be undone in time...so we have to get it done by then"

Washington, DC – Today, Fix Our Senate released the following statement in response to news that Senate Democrats are making solid progress on compromise voting rights legislation that would have the support of all 50 Democrats. This comes a month after Senate Republicans used the filibuster to prevent Democrats from even beginning debate on voting rights legislation, the defeat of which Sen. Mitch McConnell has called his “top priority.”

“This is great news for voters and American democracy,” said Eli Zupnick, spokesman for Fix Our Senate. “A majority of the Senate supports strong voting rights legislation and the only thing standing in the way is the outdated and abused filibuster. We are hopeful that Senate Democrats will deliver on their promises by bringing voting rights legislation up for a vote in August and not allowing Sen. McConnell to once again abuse the filibuster and prevent it from passing with a majority.”
