Ad Link: “Voting Rights are On the Line if Democrats Protect the Jim Crow Filibuster”
Washington, DC — A new, six figure digital ad campaign launched by Fix Our Senate today highlights the stark choice facing Democratic Senators now: protect voting rights and democracy, or protect the ‘Jim Crow’ filibuster. Republicans have threatened to use the filibuster to block key legislation Democrats have been pushing for that will expand access to the ballot, restore faith in election security, and curtail partisan voter suppression and gerrymandering efforts at the state level. Republican state legislatures have and continue to work to limit access to voting; eliminating the filibuster is the only way Democrats can pass legislation like the For the People Act that strengthens our democracy by protecting and expanding the right to vote.
The ad powerfully frames why Democrats cannot afford to delay action on eliminating the filibuster, noting in part: “Our right to vote is under attack, a bill was introduced to stop these attacks and protect voting rights but now with Senate Republicans threatening to block it, Democrats face a choice.” The ads will run initially in Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, and Virginia.
According to Eli Zupnick, spokesman for Fix Our Senate, "Fix Our Senate is focused on getting the word out across the country about the need for Senate Democrats to eliminate the filibuster and deliver on their promises. People are sick and tired of the gridlock and dysfunction, and this new ad highlights the stark choice facing Senators: protect the Senate filibuster, or protect our democracy. They won’t be able to do both.”
The full script of the ad, “They Must Choose” is below:
"Our right to vote is under attack.
(VO) ‘More than 100 bills have been put forth in state legislatures to try to clawback voting rights.’
A bill was introduced to stop these attacks and protect voting rights
But now, with Senate Republicans threatening to block it, Democrats face a choice.
(VO: President Obama) ‘If all this takes eliminating the filibuster, another Jim Crow relic, then that’s what we should do’
Tell your senators to protect our democracy, not the Jim Crow filibuster.”
