“Meaningful gun violence prevention bills will never become law as long as Sen. McConnell can use the filibuster to block them.”
Washington, DC — Today, following the House passing H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Check Act, and H.R.1446, the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2021, Fix Our Senate spokesman Eli Zupnick made the following statement:
"Like so many other popular bills passing the House, meaningful gun violence prevention bills will never become law as long as Sen. McConnell can use the filibuster to block them.
"Tragedy after tragedy, Sen. McConnell and his Republican minority stand with the NRA and use the filibuster to block extremely popular and even bipartisan gun violence prevention bills from even getting an up or down vote. But enough is enough: Senate Democrats must move quickly to eliminate the filibuster and end this partisan blockade standing in the way of common-sense gun violence prevention bills.
"People across the country are counting on Senate Democrats to deliver on their promises and prioritize the safety of their children, families and communities over an outdated and abused Senate rule.”
